Notes on the county championships and the need for more coaches & officials.
All
As a follow-up to the recent Oxfordshire County Championships, please note that details of the Inter-Counties matches can be found on the OxonAA website. This is open to all first and second placed athletes in each event, but please note that you do have to apply for your place (OxonAA will not be chasing anyone for entries).

Application details are here: http://oxonaa.org.uk/content/oaa-championships-and-county-teams-inter-counties-fixtures
County results are here: http://oxonaa.org.uk/files/tfchamps_2013.pdf

Overall, the championships proved to be very successful for Banbury Harriers athletes with a total of 58 medals (21 male & 37 female), with numerous multi-medal performances from some athletes. The list is too large to name individuals, but the results proved once again the strength of our U13 & U15 Girls with 23 medals out of the 37 total.

Elsewhere the Quad Kids competition for U11's was poorly represented with just 2 Banbury juniors entered in what is a great multi-event competition for the juniors. U13-15 boys is reliant on a handful of athletes (albeit very good ones) as we continue to suffer with football and rugby being prioritised in this age group (please remember that we are a competing club, and all members have signed-up knowing we expect athletes to compete in the various leagues). The fixture list has been on our website for some time and the Team Managers work hard to promote the events at training and during the weekly briefing, so everyone should be aware of the competitions and willing to compete.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind everyone that 2013/14 season membership subscriptions are now overdue, if you haven't paid, please complete the renewal form and pay the subscription this week. Part of the renewal process is updating England Athletics info and therefore competition licences will become invalid at the end of this month.

Finally, Banbury Harriers is totally reliant on the goodwill of volunteer Coaches, Officials, Team Managers and Helpers but we need more assistance. At the time of writing we have 162 athletes with a 20113/14 season membership and possibly another 28 still to renew. We receive new application every week but at present have had to introduce a waiting list as we lack coaches to assist in running the training sessions. If any parent is interested in helping out, the club is willing to pay the cost of a basic coaching course which will allow you look after small groups under the supervision of the senior coaches. Also, there is shortage of 'Competition Officials', particularly Time-Keepers who are critical to the running of the various competitions. If anyone is interested in becoming a Coach or Official please speak to either myself or Doug Scott during one of the weekly training sessions.
