Report from the Oxford mail races at Culham

CULHAM PARK OXON LEAGUE CROSSCOUNTRY

Skip Snelson and Owen Knox again raised the highest banners for the Banburyshire clubs in the second Oxfordshire Cross-country league which was held at Culham Park on Sunday.

Snelson running for Banbury Harriers, like in the Chilton League has the credentials to win the overall league title in the under eleven boy’s age group. He again like in the other league had to succumb to his main rival of the first fixture in the run for the line. In the three remaining fixtures in the league it will be interesting how he combats the challenge of Kia Austin from Abingdon.

In this race also Stanley Bull improved by two places from the first fixture to finish 6th and Christopher Charles came home in 11th place of the 60plus starters.

Owen Knox who was running in the under thirteen boy’s age group also should feature in the title race in March. When on Sunday he improved by one place from the first fixture, crossing the line in third place.

The two senior races again attracted a large entry over the hilly course at Culham. In the man’s race it was Banbury Harriers Tim Wright finishing in the highest place coming home in 9th place. Tom Bradford in the Hook Norton colours was next in 14th place, behind him came the two reliable vet40’s Simon Pritchard for Harriers in 38th place and Dave Tame of Hook Norton in 43rd place. The latter just edged out the first of four Cherwell Road Runners finishing next Henry Sleight. The three other’s being Dan Peabody in 57th place, Adam Fairhurst in 73rd place and Ian Thomas in 81st place.

In the woman’s race Michelle Bartlett led the way in 14th place and also in the Banbury Harriers colours Rebecca Biegel in 65th place. Cherwell’s Rachel Forest followed next in 83rd place, then it was another Banbury Harrier Lisa Ansell in 101st place and then Hook Norton’s first lady Juliet Owens in 113th place.

In the other younger age group races Emily Thompson finished 9th in the U15/17 girls, Luke Sherlock 14th in the boys equivalent and Tia Williams 17th in the under thirteen girl’s race.
