                               SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS AT WITNEY

The Banbury Harriers young members made excellent claims to make next month’s inter-counties team for Oxfordshire at Witney on Sunday at the third fixture of the county league.
The under fifteen’s girls age group with seven places up for grabs could see a possible four from the club in the team. Abbey Anson looks, with the format of multi ability, a strong case for selection with her speed on the boards and agility with various field events. This was shown again on Sunday and she played a large part in keeping the girls on course for the title.
Emily Thompson again showed she can dominate the four lap races and if she can hold her field events together could make the team. This also extends to both Naomi Anderson and Rebecca Scott.
Two others that are making strong claims are Paige Cooper and Helen Dubber, both have all round ability and Burgess Hill for the inter-counties could be their reward.
The under 13 girls also have strong claims with a format that not strictly based on all round ability and twelve places to be filled. Victoria Harte and Evie Hawkins on Sunday’s performance should make Burgess Hill. Both have speed and agility as they beat off the rest in their various events. The shorter running events could see Amelia Leondiou stake acclaim for a place and this also applies to Lily Hamp in the longer races as she easily won the six lap race.
Of the boys the best on Sunday to press for selection came with Felix Noble in the under thirteen age group and Michael Dawes in the older age group.
