MIDLAND ATHLETICS LEAGUE
It was apparent after the conclusion of Banbury Harriers opening fixture of the Midland Athletic League held at Corby on Sunday, that both promotion and relegation will not figure in the equation this summer.
The club certainly had numerous talented athletes preforming at the meeting which will be boosted in the three remaining fixtures. The opposite to this thou is in certain events the lack of any one.
The field events provided a large percentage of the points in both throws and jumps, highlights on the track were scarce.
Perriss Wilkins and his young contender Tomasz Napiorkowski accumulating excellent points in their throwing events. The teenager more than matched his experienced mentor in each of their events. The hammer started their day with Napiorkowski finishing second in the “A” string and Wilkins third in the “B”. The shot followed with the duo winning both strings this was repeated in the discus in the last event of the meeting. Napiorkowski also gained second place in the “B” string javelin providing the support to the high class winning throwing of Alex Brown.
The ladies field events illustrated the talents of Shana and Shannon Parker in both the triple and long jump. Shana won the triple and her sister likewise in the other string. In the long jump Shannon finished second in the “A” string and Shana won the “B” string. Both girls then gained good points in the high jump and relays. There was also high points scored by Samantha Phillips in the high jump and Claire Goodwin in the javelin.
On the track the highlight without doubt was by Hannah Cousins winning the 100metre hurdles and also the “B” string 100metres.
