On Sunday 17th May Banbury Harrier’s competed in the second Oxon league athletics meeting of the season which was held at the Banbury track. In an all-round good performance there was notable success at under-11 quad kids age and under-13 boys.
In the under-11 girls quad kids event Reagan Sellers produced the best result of the day finishing 4th overall after scoring heavily in the 75m and 600m. In the boys event it was a clean sweep as positions 1 to
3 were all taken by our young harriers. Max Lloyd-Thomas won the event with strong performances in all disciplines. In an outstanding long-jump Lloyd-Thomas was piped by just 2 cm’s finishing with 4.1m.
Ethan Aldous, who finished second overall, won the event with a terrific leap of 4.12m. Aldous then claimed the 600m in a quite brilliant time of 1.55 with Lloyd-Thomas also well under the 2m barrier in a time of 1:57. With equal times in the 75m it was down to the howler and Lloyd-Thomas finally came out on top with a strong throw of 30.05m to seal first place. Jordon Broersman added to the excitement by finishing 3rd overall scoring strongly across all 4 events.
In the under-13 girl’s event there were some strong performances from Matilda Donaghy and Maddi Dowden in the 100m and by Donaghy and Tyla Robinson in the 200m. The girls sprint team also comfortably won the 4x100m relay. In the under-13 boys there were some fantastic performances starting with Giano Winkler and Callum Davies who won the a-string and b-string 100m’s respectively. Christopher Charles and Oliver Clamp then repeated the result at 200m’s. In the 1500m Skip Snelson almost breached the 5 minute barrier finishing first in
5.02.05 and Theo Williams clinched first place in the 75m hurdles in 14:40. The boy’s 4x100m relay team then obliterated the field to take victory in a time of 58.60. In the field Williams won the high-jump clearing 1.36m and Winkler took first place in the javelin with a throw of 28.22m.
In the girl’s under-15’s Lily Hamp produced a strong 300m to win the b-string in 45.20 and Tia Williams fought hard in the 800m to finish second in 2.33.0. In the field Shannon Dawes won the javelin with a great throw of 29.50m. In the boys events Felix Noble took first place in both the 100m and 200m races. Blaine Carpenter ran strongly for 2nd place in the 1500m finishing in 5:03:50.
In the girl’s under-17 Helen Dubber ran strongly to take first in the 200m and Emily Thompson showed some excellent sprinting quality to finish first in the 300m. In the field Rebecca Scott won the long jump with 4.59m and then the high jump with 1.50m. Paige Cooper easily won the shot with 8.23m and then took first place in a tighter discuss competition, winning with 16.84m. In the boys event Jake Stickley won the 200m race but was just piped into second in the 100m despite recoding the same time as the winner. Seb Hartwell won the 400m in
54.90 and Ben Brown took the b-string in 57.60. A team of Stickley, Hartwell, Brown and Matt Hall also won the 4x100 relay in an exceptionally quick time of 49.00.
