COMPETITION REPORT

The Youth Development League (Lower Age Group) for U13 & U15 athletes was the first home competition of the season for Banbury Harriers, and had a good turn-out of competitors, offering an early opportunity for point-gathering. An excellent set of performances and a nearly full compliment of athletes provided a well deserved win for Banbury Harriers - 520-points set an early lead for the season, with second place going to Leamington on 436-points.
Alex England in the U15B 100m fought for a position in the top three, settling for 2nd in the A-String (13.2s), whilst the duo of Christopher Charles and Ollie Clamp took 2nd places in the 200m A & B-String respectively, with 26.6s & 29.0s. Simon Daenen took 1st in the 800m with a noteworthy 2.32.7mins. In the 1500m, Angus Pollock clenched 2nd in the A-String with Jasper Bell taking 1st in the B-String. Christopher Charles won the 80m Hurdles with a time of 13.3s, his third run of the season with yet another PB, and took 1st in the Long Jump, alongside Ollie Clamp who won the B-String with 4.60m. England re-emerged to take 2nd in Shot with 9.29m (PB). Daniel Kemp in his first competition for the club took first places in both Discus and Hammer with 23.07m & 25.37m respectively, and the relay team stormed to victory in the 4x100m.
Not to be outshone, the U15G showed talent with Emelina Darvell 2nd in 200m A-String (30.3s), and the 75m Hurdles team of Tegan Armstrong and Maddy Dowden taking 2nd (12.5s PB) and 1st (13.2s) in the A/B-String respectively. Showing strong form, Darvell also took 1st in the Shot (7.72m), Armstrong joined by Sophie Howie in the High Jump took 2nd & 1st in A/B-Strings (1.35m & 1.30m), with Maia Cook and Howie taking 2nd and 1st in A/B-String Long Jump (4.06m & 3.85m PB). A notable mention to Iris Moore who took 2nd B-String in Shot Put (6.08m).
Emelina re-emerged with Lizzie Anderson to take 2nd and 1st respectively in A/B-String Discus (19.12m PB & 12.09m), and Lizzie Eskender took 1st in Hammer (25.78m PB) and 2nd in Javelin (22.24m PB) alongside Nikola Bishop’s 2nd in the B-String (18.25m). The 4x100m relay was narrowly beaten into 2nd place by 0.3s.
The younger U13 squads showed similar ability, with Raegan Sellers and Inka Moyaert taking 2nd places in 150m A & B-String respectively (22.1s & 23.0s). Florence Tuthill stormed to 1st place in 800m finishing a clear 12s ahead of 2nd place with 2:41.8m), and taking 1st in B-String Long Jump (3.49m), with Sellers taking 1st in A-String (4.11m), and 2nd in 70m Hurdles (13.0s). The relay team slipped to 2nd place with 62.2s, by the narrowest of margins.
U13B deserve full credit for the weekend - Archie Jones won A-String 100m with 13.9s, and 200m with 27.9s (PB). Ethan Aldous finished the 800m in 2:34.9m to take 2nd in the A-string and won the Long Jump with 4.62m (PB), supported by Jones winning the B-String with 3.98m. Henry Pollock stormed to victory in the 1500m A-String, with companion Archie Street winning the B-String. Matthew Daenen took 2nd in the Javelin A-String with 16.08m. The relay team finished off the day with a win in the 4x100m.
The 2nd match in the three
competition series is back in Banbury in 4-weeks time.
Next competition is the first Youth
Development League (Upper Age Group - U17 & U20) at Coventry on Sunday 30th
