Report on mini marathon by Liz Scrivener

"Following a superb cross country season Banbury Harriers Alex Scrivener had the huge honour of being selected to race for the South East in the Virgin London Mini Marathon on Sunday 23rd April.

Six athletes from each age category are selected based on their form from the winter season for a much coveted place racing 3 miles through London on the last stages of the official Marathon course finishing with huge fanfare along the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace.

The race takes place early in the morning before the start of the official Marathon and it was a tall ask for Alex who only flew in the night before having competed in the Vienna Mini Marathon where she placed 2nd over 4.2k, but she rose to the occasion completing the 3 miles in 17:59.

Younger sister Frankie was not to be outdone and also competed in Vienna placing 4th for her age category in the 2k road race. She thoroughly enjoyed her experience too!"
