U17/U20s YDL Midlands Region at Loughborough University

Banbury Harriers U17 and U20s were in action on Sunday at The Paula Radcliffe Stadium, Loughborough University for the final Midlands YDL meeting of the summer.
Inspired by the impressive backdrop of the High Performance Centre U17 Charlie Yates won both the long and triple jumps with leaps of 6.17m and 11.8m respectively. Ollie Sprio led from the blocks when winning the 100m in a SB of 11.1s and then followed this up with a blistering 22.79s for 3rd in the 200m. Owen Knox ran strongly for a new PB of 4min 28.12s when finishing 2nd in the U17 1500m and Oskar Moyeart was 2nd in the B 200m in 26.28s.
In the same form which saw him crowned U19 SW Schools hammer champion in Exeter last week Michael Dawes tossed the ball and chain out to 53.87m for 1st and followed this up with 2nd in the Shot Put with 9.95m, 2nd with the Javelin, 32.98m and 1st in the B Discus with 33.66m. U20 Charlie Shepherd won the Discus with 34.15m and B Shot Put with 7.96m. On the track Matt Hall set a new PB of 23.47s when 2nd in the U20s 200m and was 3rd in the B 100m in 11.8s. Effiom Edet was 2nd in the B 200 with a PB of 24.06s.
For the U17 ladies Evie Hawkins won the long jump with 4.76m, jumped 1.45m for 2nd in the high jump and stormed through at the end for a new PB of 13.3s when 2nd in the 100m. Sydney Sellers produced a good run for 2nd in the 80h and lowered her PB to 13.89s and was also 2nd in the B 300m in 47.59. Lily Hamp was 3rd in the A 300m in 45.8 and 3rd in the 200m. In the field Shannon Dawes threw the 500g spear 34.54m for victory in the Javelin.
In the U20 women events Abbey Anson had a full day with 2nd in the 4 kg Shot Put with 8.02m, 3rd in the 100m in 12.69s, 3rd in the 200m in 26.88 and 3rd in the Discus with 14.93m. 800m runner Emily Thompson competing over the shorter distances in preparation for next month’s English Schools’ finals looked sharp when winning the B 200m in 26.16s and 2nd in the 400m in 57.26s. Helen Dubber run a new PB of 18.2s for 2nd in the 100m hurdles and then followed this up with 3rd in the Javelin and B Discus.
The mixed U17/U20 mens’ team of Hall, Sprio, Dawes and Edet then finished the day with 3rd in the 4 x 100m relay in 47.9s a feat equalled by the U17 ladies team of Sellers, Hamp, Dawes and Hawkins in 55.6s.
