Report on Midland U15/17 champs

MIDLAND COUNTIES UNDER 15/17 ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
It was a gold and silver weekend for Michael Dawes and Emily Thompson at the Midland Counties Under 15/17 championships held at the Alexander Stadium Birmingham.
The two young Banbury Harrier athletes both gained the rewards for their hard work in training. Dawes collected double gold winning both the discus and the hammer in the under fifteen age group. His discus win came with a series of throws over a similar distance with the best being 31m 96cm. The hammer gave him even more pleasure when he hurled the ball and chain out to a personal best of 34m 81cm.
Thompson collected a silver medal in with two constructive races in the under fifteen 800metres. She was quite content to only extend herself enough to qualify for Sunday’s final, finishing third in a time of 2m 27.6s. In the final she ran a more positive race with the confidence she could go faster and chased her heat winner home to gain the silver with a time of 2m 23.26s.
Luke Sherlock also took part at Birmingham in the under seventeen’s 800metres finishing 6th in the final with a time of 2m 09.21s.
