Nationals at Donington park

7 intrepid Harrier’s made the trip to Donington Park on Saturday to take part in the National Cross Country Championships. The scale of the event really has to be seen to be believed with over 1,700 competitors in the senior men’s race alone and you can imagine that by the time they set off the course had already taken something of a beating! The standout performance on the day came from Jenny Hannah in the under-15 girl’s race coming home in 42nd position out of a field of 354. In the under-15 boys Blaine Carpenter ran very well for 214th and was followed home by Owen Knox in 284th position.  George Adams ran hard in a tough under-17 men’s race finishing 243rd before Rosie Weston produced another fine performance in the under-20 woman’s race when finishing an excellent 39th. Ros Kelling, who described the race as one of the toughest she has ever done, ran an excellent race in the senior woman’s event finishing 178th out of 700 along with Becky Pull who ran very well for 533rd. It was a very hilly course covered in deep but drying mud that sucked your feet down and didn’t let go and credit should go to all the athletes who competed on such a difficult course and pitted themselves against incredibly strong fields.
