Oxfordshire road relays

initial report

Due to the London marathon and other commitments Banbury Harriers could only enter 2 teams in the road relays this year.

In the U13/15 girls race Tia Williams started in the first leg but due to a narrow start she was at the back after the first 100 meters. However she kept her cool and worked her way through the field to finish in a fantastic second place. This was also the 6th best leg time in 6min 31 sec. The other runners were Naomi Dib (7.05) and Charlotte Barwick (8.00) who committed well to bring the team home in 7th and only one second off 6th place.

In the men’s race the Harriers veteran team were led off by Simon Pritchard who handed over in second place in a time of 19m 16s. Phil Coy took over but was overtaken by Richard Gould of Alchester (17.27) in the first few yards. However he kept it together and finished with a time of 22m 16s. Ian Robinson took over clocking 23m 56s. Then came Bruce Hendrie 22m 26sec, Neil Wallis in 23m 02s and Neil Forbes on the “glory leg” in 24m 06s bringing the team home in 2h 15m 02s and 3rd position. Phil Coy was 3rd best individual V60 just pipping Bruce who was 4th.

Thanks to Andy & Michelle Bartlett who acted as team leaders and marshaled for us. Also to Roz who got the teams together.
