Report from Warwick

Youth Development League report for U17s/U20s held in Coventry on Sunday 30th April by Felicity Dawes.

On Sunday Banbury Harriers U17s and U20s travelled to the Warwick University Athletics Track for the opening fixture of the season.

Despite the cold and strong headwind providing challenging conditions for the throwers and sprinters the small team produced some outstanding early season performances.

U17 Charlie Yates continued his recent run of good form starting with 1st place in the Long Jump when leaping to a new PB of 6.48m, and an ESAA qualifying standard. He then rounded off his day by winning the triple jump with a PB of 12.62m.

In the sprints Ollie Sprio was 2nd in the U17 100m in 11.6s and 3rd in the 200m in 24s. Felix Noble was 2nd in the B 100m in 12.5s and 2nd in the B 200m in 25.6s. Reuben Trotter took 2rd in the 1500m in a time of 4m44.5s.

U20 Michael Dawes was 1st in the Hammer with another ESAA qualifying standard throw of 52.06m, 1st in with Discus with a PB of 34.83m and threw a new PB of 10.04m in the Shot Put.

In the U20 track events Gregor Kelling was 2rd in the 1500m in 4m27.2s and Luke Sherlock was 2nd in the B 1500m in 4m32.6s and 1st in the B Javelin. Matt Hall was 4th in the 100m and 200m in 12.1s and 25.1s respectively and Effiom Edel won the B 100m with a PB of 11.7s. Charlie Shepherd won the B string Discus and Shot with throws of 29.25m and 7.76m respectively.

In the U17 ladies field Evie Hawkins won the Long Jump with 4.83m and was 2nd in the High Jump with 1.45m. Shannon Dawes was 1st in the U17 Javelin with 32.22m and Sydney Sellers was 3rd in the 200m and 300m in 29.8s and 48.1s respectively. First year U17 Maddie Cooper was 3rd in the 100m and 1st in the B Long Jump and Naomi Dibb in her debut was 4th in the 800m in a PB of 2min 50secs.

U20 Rebecca Scott was 2nd in the Long Jump with a PB of 5.17m and 1st= in the High Jump with 1.53m. Helen Dubber marked her debut in the 100mh with a win as did Sophia Daenen in the B string. Sophia then jumped a PB of 10.37m for 2nd in the Triple Jump. Jess Lay performed strongly in the U20 throws to take 2nd in the Hammer and Shot and 3rd in the Discus.

The ladies then finished the day with two solid performances in the 4 x 100m relays, where the U17 team of Cooper, Sellers, Hawkins and Dibb took 2nd in 57.3s and the U20 team of Dawes, Scott, Dubber and Daenen were 3rd in 56.4.
