INTERCOUNTIES ATHLETICS
Banbury Harriers had the honour of fourteen members selected for The South of England U20/15 Inter-Counties Championship at Horspath on Saturday.
Two girls and one boy stood out in the under twenty age group. In the 800metres race Emily Thompson demonstrated why she is one of the best in the under 20 rankings in the UK. When Thompson took control and dominated after the first 200metres into the race. She approached the bell and increased her pace to leave the others seventy metres behind. Next season she could be taking on the best at senior level.
Sophie Daenan really excelled in the triple jump against strong opposition she recorded a personal best of 10m69cm. This also could be said for Michael Dawes in the hammer with another personal best throw of 55m05cm, to finish 4th with Daenen finishing 5th.
Charlie Yates finished fifth also in the long jump with a best of 6m22cm, also in this age group Shannon Dawes stepped up an age group and hurled the javelin out to just under 32metres and Matt Hall ran a swift 23.73s 200metres.
In the younger age group Kody Johnson stood out with another excellent javelin throw exceeding 40metres and a personal best in the shot of 11m08cm. Also in the field Elizabeth Eskuder in the hammer, Emelia Darvell and Dan Kemp both in the discus threw personal bests.
On the track Christopher Charles and Tegan Armstrong competing against athletes twelve months older also went close to personal bests in 80metre and 75metre hurdle races. Aidan Christie ran a strong 200metres as did Alex Scrivener in the 1500metres.
