HEART OF ENGLAND LEAGUE 16.6.19
Banbury Harriers Athletic Club hosted the second round of the Heart of England
Athletic League at North Oxon Academy on Sunday. Having been promoted into Division 1 of this strong league against some of the big clubs nationally such as Coventry Godiva the athletes have their work cut out to say here.
Isla McGowan (U13) started the track events off well with a fine front running win in the 1500m. Eimear Moss followed this up with a PB of 12.7 seconds and 2nd place in the 75m hurdles. U20 Owen Knox stepped down in distance to 800m and was just beaten for speed on the second lap finishing 2nd to the Solihull runner. B string Simon Daenen was a comfortable winner. The throwers had a good match with
Charlie Evans (U15) winning the shot with a throw of 10.11m and Emelina Darvell 2nd in the U17 shot with 9.97m. Evans was also 2nd in the javelin with 41.55m, with Matthew Daenen first B string in the same event. Evans finished his day with 2nd B string in the long jump. Lucas Rymarz was 2nd in the U13 javelin.
U17 Bea Jarvis having recently joined the club showed a good turn of speed when pipping Coventry Godiva for 2nd place with just 0.4 seconds separating the pair in the 800m. Matthew Hall (U20) ling jumped 5.95m to win the competition and followed this up with a win in the 100m in 11.1 seconds. Training partner Archie Jones won the U15 100m in 11.7 seconds, while youngster Leo Anderson won the U13 100m in 13.2 seconds. Anderson was also a comfortable winner in the long jump with a jump of 5.02m with Tegan Armstrong 2nd in her competition jumping 4.77m.
Middle distance runner Tilly Lainchbury stepped down in distance to run a very well paced 300m and was rewarded with 1st place in the U15 B race.
In the last of the individual track races of the day Harriers athletes gained good points with U15 Ruben Snelson tracking the leader throughout the 1500m and just being beaten into 2nd place in a great sprint finish. Snelson was rewarded with a PB of 4min 45sec. Older brother Skip Snelson was untroubled in the U17 1500m going into the lead from the gun and stretching his lead throughout the race to win by a comfortable 20 seconds in 4min 17sec. Maximum points were gained by Simon Daenen also winning the B race.
Banbury Harriers fiished the day in 6th position of the 8 clubs just 8 points behind Radley. Stratford AC won the match,
