COMPETITION REPORT by Alfie Rowett

Midland T&F League Division 6 - Saturday 6th May 2017

"It was a strong start to the season for the senior athletes at Banbury Harriers this weekend, with numerous podium finishes at Sutton-in-Ashfield athletics track.

In the sprints Alfie Rowett came first in both the 400m and 100m with times of 41.7 and 11.1 respectively, as well as taking 3rd in the javelin with a throw of 33.33m. Sam Hook then came first in the 100m B race with a time of 11.7, whilst in the throws making 10.15m in shot putt for first, 27.33m in the javelin and taking 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 5.86m. Felix Noble managed to grab 2nd and 3rd in the 100m and 200m, with times of 24.6 and 11.8 respectively.

Helen Dubber continued the sprints success with 1st in the 100m hurdles A race with 20.3 and 14.4 in the 100m, while Jess Lay took 1st place in the B race 100m hurdles with 19.9.

Jess continued her success with 1st in shot putt and B string hammer with distance of 10.84m and 17.24m, finally Jess also managed a 3rd in the 400m hurdles to round of her day with numerous PBs.

Elsewhere on the track Rebecca Scott came 2nd across the board in the 200m, javelin, long jump and high jump with a new PB in the javelin of 22.66. In more throws news, Jess Cherry stole 1st in shot putt and javelin with distances of 6.59m and 21.73m, on top of a 3rd in the hammer. Charlie Shepard went on to win both the A string discus with 7.75m and B string shot putt with a PB of 30.25m.

Finally Philip Vincent brought up the rear on the track with a 3rd in the 400m hurdles with a time of 78.6 and strong positions in the 2000m steeple chase, 5000m and 800m.

A very successful day with points from all athletes across the board. A good sign for Midland League events to come for sure."
